Eligibility and Scoring
Eligibility and Scoring
General Eligibility
Runners must be active HARRA members with a club affiliation on file to be included in series scoring. Club affiliations are taken directly from the HARRA membership roster — there is no separate registration step.
Runners may not switch clubs in the middle of a season.
Warm-Up Series
A subset of the Fall Series races counts as part of the Warm-Up Series for the Houston Marathon. The included races are the Fall Series 10-Miler, Half Marathon, 25K, and 30K.
The following rules apply to the Warm-Up Series:
- You do not have to be a HARRA member to be recognized as a finisher.
- You must be a HARRA member to earn an award.
- Award winners are required to run all the races in the Warm-Up Series or run all but one for which they are officially recorded as a race volunteer.
Scoring Overview
HARRA series scoring runs on two independent tracks. Every eligible finisher contributes to both, though Track 2 requires a complete team.
Track 1 - Interclub Championship (Participation)
Every active HARRA member with a club affiliation who finishes any series event - road race or relay leg - earns 1 participation point for their club. Finishing position, speed, and team assignment are not factors. No runner who crosses a finish line goes unrecognized.
Interclub standings and be calculated two ways: raw (total participation points) and normalized (participation points divided by total active club members), so that smaller clubs whose members race consistently can compete with larger ones. For 2026, only the raw standings will be shared. The overall Interclub Champion is determined by combined Fall and Spring results and announced at the Summer Celebration.
Track 2 - Division Awards (Competitive)
Competitive scoring is organized across ten divisions, split by gender and age:
- Open Women (under 40) / Open Men (under 40)
- Masters Women (ages 40 to 49) / Masters Men (ages 40 to 49)
- Grand Masters Women (age 50 to 59) / Grand Masters Men (age 50 to 59)
- Senior Masters Women (age 60 to 69) / Senior Masters Men (age 60 to 69)
- Veteran Masters Women (age 70 and older) / Veteran Masters Men (age 70 and older)
Within each division, clubs field teams of three. Teams are ranked by their combined WMA age-graded score, a 0 to 100 measure of each runner's performance relative to world-record pace for their age and gender. A cascade system ensures that runners whose division cannot form a complete team of three are considered for the next division down, so no eligible runner is stranded unnecessarily.
Points are awarded within each event and division by finishing place:
- 1st: 7 pts • 2nd: 6 pts • 3rd: 5 pts • 4th: 4 pts • 5th: 3 pts • 6th: 2 pts • 7th and beyond: 1 pt
Every complete team earns at least 1 point. A club that fields multiple complete teams in the same division at the same event scores points for each. Division Award standings reflect total competitive points accumulated across all events in the combined Fall and Spring seasons, with winners announced at the Summer Celebration.
